Aloha, I'm Dr. Lisa Hartwell.
I'm very much an extrovert.
And still, when I start talking on a stage, it hits me at about an eight out of 10.
My heart races.
I feel a little short of breath.
I get a little shaky.
So I hold my anchor.
It's a gold apple pendant. A friend found it in DC when my first book, Bad Apples, came out. I couldn't find apple jewelry anywhere. She mailed it to my hotel, right before my first book launch.
I also wear a Hawaiian pendant with my son's name on it.
I hold it. I remind myself why I'm there for the people in the room.
About 20 seconds later, I'm settled.
It's never gone away. I've never stopped it.
I just know how to come back.
